AviMan: Clutch Management

Once a pairing has been setup, you are ready to start recording clutch and egg data for this pair.
  1. Find the desired species in the Tree and under this node select Pairs -> Current. All the pairs of this species will be listed in the List frame.
  2. Select the correct pair and right-click to show the pop up menu. Select Edit. The pairings form will be displayed
  3. At the top right you will see a box titled Clutches. Fill in the field Clutch Code. You can use any text to identify a clutch. For example you may use the month & year the clutch was started such as 02/2012. Press Enter
  4. Now Click on the Clutch Code you just entered to select the row. This will enable the Eggs section at the bottom of this window.
  5. Enter the Date Laid for each egg on a separate row. The Fertile and Due Date columns will be filled in  automatically.
  6. Click on the Status box and select whichever applies. If an egg has just been laid and you have no information about its fertility select unknown. If you have candled the egg and know that it is fertile or not select Developing or Clear as appropriate. Similarly you may select Dead In Shell, Broken or Thrown Out if appropriate.
  7. The Status Date is optional and may be used to store the date on which the said status was observed. For example the date you candled the egg and observed that it was developing normally.
  8. Click the Save Button to save your data.
You may add eggs and update the status of the eggs at anytime.
Find the pairing as explained in (1) and (2) above. This will take you to the pairing and clutches form where you may add or edit data.

If an egg has hatched do the following to create a record for the new bird.
  • Update the Status Date to show the hatch date
  • Select the Status Hatched
  • In the column Bird, click on the square button.
  • This will open up the Bird editing form with most of the information already filled in for the new chick.
  • All you need to do now is enter the Name and click Save.
  • This will create a new bird in your records with the status set to Nursery
  • You may edit this new bird later on to update the band number or change the Name, Status etc.
As long as there are eggs in a clutch with the status unknown or developing, the clutch will be treated as an Active Clutch. It will be displayed under active clutches on your main page. Once a clutch has been completed and you wish to start editing a new clutch, enter a new clutch code on a new row in the clutches area on the top right. Select the new clutch to start entering data in the eggs section.

  1. An excellent software, had more than everything i needed. Superb one.
Just faced only 1 error, while creating a new bird record, if i mistakenly check the checkbox of lost and then un-check, it would still prompt for an error " Please enter reason for lost"
